Darwin Plus, also known as the Overseas Territories Environment and Climate Fund, is a programme designed to help fund environmental projects in the 14 UK Overseas territories. The programme also receives funding support from FCDO for the 4 ODA-eligible countries (St Helena, Tristan Da Cunha, Montserrat and Pitcairn Islands). Projects under the competitive grant scheme must address one or more of the following themes: • Biodiversity: improving and conserving biodiversity, and slowing or reversing biodiversity loss and degradation; • Climate change: responding to, mitigating and adapting to climate change and its effects on the natural environment and local communities; • Environmental quality: improving the condition and protection of the natural environment; • Capability and capacity building: enhancing the capacity within UKOTs to support the environment in the short- and long-term. By 2023, the Darwin Plus programme has invested over £47 million in more than 250 projects in the OTs since being established in 2012.
