The UK launched the £500 million Blue Planet Fund in 2021. Financed from the UK aid budget, the Blue Planet Fund is a portfolio of marine ODA programmes that support developing countries to reduce poverty, protect and sustainably manage their marine resources and address human-generated threats across four key themes: biodiversity, climate change, marine pollution, and sustainable seafood. The Blue Planet Fund is jointly managed by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The programmes led by Defra are managed by the International Sustainable Blue Finance Team.
