New antibiotic treatments with Global Antibiotic Research & Development Partnership (GARDP)

The Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership (GARDP) is a not-for-profit organisation developing new treatments for drug-resistant infections that pose the greatest threat to health and aims to ensure that everyone who needs antibiotics receives effective and affordable treatment, no matter where they live. GARDP addresses the most urgent threats to public health, particularly in low and middle-income countries (LMICs), by developing treatments for sepsis in children and new-borns, serious bacterial infections in adults, and sexually transmitted infections. GARDP bridges the gap between innovation and access by focusing on developing candidates in late-stage clinical development, and already available antibiotics, as treatments for drug resistant infections. The UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) funding through the Global AMR Innovation Fund (GAMRIF) will support GARDP for the development and delivery of new treatments for drug-resistant infections across the following three programmes: • Serious bacterial infections (SBIs) • Children’s antibiotics (Neonatal sepsis and paediatric development) • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including the novel antibiotic zoliflodacin against drug-resistant gonorrhoea
